Samenscholing is a popular education project which goal is to spread knowledge outside of tradition institutions, through a collaborative magazine and collective learning. Anybody who wishes to contribute to the magazine in one way or another can do so. Contributions to the magazine were reviewed peer-to-peer during different feedback loops. For the first edition, I got asked to design the inner pages, while the cover was designer by others. My approach was to combine traditional tropes of magazine layouts with punk zine-culture gimmicks. The ransom-notes letters clash with traditional sans-serif type (an activist fork of Garamond designed by Bye Bye Binary), while the ornaments become wavy of vibrant to give more rythm to the design. The creative process included a collective folding and binding session, where I taught other contributors book-binding basics, in a logic of collective peer-to-peer learning.
