WdKA Publication Station Wayfinding
The WdKA Publication Station (understand workshop) is a place for students to learn a vast variety of printing techniques. One of them is screen-printing, and this technique can be daunting for newcomers. To add further complexity, explanations within the workshop space were scattered, outdated and heterogenous. Hard to navigate.
The station’s staff asked me to redesign the instructions for them to be easier to understand and more user-friendly. In a cartoonish style, I came up with an icon system using mascots inspired by the tools available in the space. The color scheme is dynamic to stand out in the space, immediately recognizable. It maps out the relevant information to look for.
The backbone of the system is a long stipe that summarizes all the steps involved in the printing process. Then, every step gets a dedicated instruction poster, placed contextually around each area of the workshop. The synthetic schemes inform the students on what tools to use and how. The whole system is therefore fun and accessible, while the icons allow the staff to create extra instructions if needed.
