Composting: Regenerative Creative Practices symposium

What does it mean, and what does it take to have a regenerative practice? This was the theme of the symposium Composting: Regenerative Creative Practices organized by the Nieuwe Instituut in collaboration with various institutions in the Netherlands. The WdKA, as a co-organiser of this event, commissioned me to create a visual identity and the way finding for the event.

The task was not easy, as I had to contain complex and dense information on a small format, while the event spread across multiple rooms in the venue, at different times. The brief also required multiple interactive formats, such as name tags and way finding panels to guide people through the day.

The visual outcome is a colorful set of shapes taken from the font Cerial, that was given to me as a mandatory element, which look like spores or pollens. The various shapes help navigate the map: each participant received two of them at the beginning of the day to know what workshops to attend. They could then freely stick them onto their name card, overlapping with the type in transparency. The trick was to bring some fluidity in the design, while remaining clear and consistent for the visitors.
